Michigan Supreme Court

Body Copy 2A

JusticeYoung_web-title.jpgUnderstanding Michigan’s judicial system is vital to adults and children alike. This website provides an overview of the Court’s practices and includes a multitude of resources. Please visit site links for precise details.

We also invite you to visit the Michigan Hall of Justice located at the corner of Allegan Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard, three blocks west of the State Capitol and north of the Michigan Historical Center.

Come visit—find the words freedom, truth, equality, and justice etched at the entrance. Participate in the hands-on opportunities in the Learning Center, or sit quietly in a courtroom when court is in session. The role that law plays in our everyday lives is central to American democracy. We encourage you to learn about the legacy that the Constitution guarantees as well as teach succeeding generations how important it is to participate in democracy in action.

The Guide for Counsel in Cases to Be Argued in the Michigan Supreme Court was prepared by Supreme Court staff with extensive input from several prominent appellate practitioners. Topics include preparation for oral argument, filing, brief writing tips, oral argument procedures, and more. It is especially designed for those attorneys making their first appearance before the Court. The guide includes general information plus a directory of offices and programs. Click on the icon (above, left) to open the guide.
